Our History
Kingdom Life Community Church (KLCC) began as a God-inspired seed in the heart and mind of our founder, Pastor John Thompson. In 1993, while
sitting in a minister’s conference, Rev. Thompson began to daydream of a kingdom-centered community of believers; those who would discard the religious baggage denominational life seemed to carry to pursue God’s manifested kingdom agenda as they lived for His glory.
That seed would incubate for 15 years before sprouting into KLCC. In the Spring of 2010, supporters began meeting with John and his wife, Andrea,
to pray over the vision to launch a new church. That fall, they began meeting on Saturday evenings for Bible study and prayer. On Sunday, September 11, 2011, KLCC officially opened its doors by hosting its first Sunday worship service at John F. Kennedy High School in Silver Spring, MD.
KLCC worshipped at JFK High School until they were displaced in the summer of 2017. Infrastructure work at Kennedy High required KLCC to
relocate temporarily to the nearby Bel Pre Elementary School. This move was prompted by construction but was soon revealed as divine providence. After returning to Kennedy in the fall of 2017, church leaders felt led to the Bel Pre-Strathmore community and prayed about a permanent relocation to Bel Pre. This desire materialized in February 2018 as KLCC relocated to its current home at Bel Pre Elementary School.
Along with the rest of the nation, KLCC was shut down in March 2020 as the COVID-19 Pandemic closed businesses, schools, and houses of worship. By April, the church’s Action Team had redesigned Pastor Thompson’s basement to accommodate an in-home studio, from which services were broadcast remotely for the next 18 months. On September 19, 2021, KLCC returned to in-person, socially distanced worship at Bel Pre, and began the work of rebuilding the congregation.
Today, Kingdom Life Community Church is poised to serve Montgomery County and the DC/Baltimore corridor as “one of the best-kept secrets of Montgomery County!” With a passion for worship and a heart for people, KLCC is positioned in the community to help seekers become believers, believers become disciples, and disciples become disciple-makers.
